LONDON SANCTUARY GARDEN
This London garden with an interesting L shape was the inspiration for a spiritual garden, a thoughtful haven away from the bustle of the busy digital age for children to play, and adults to exercise and meditate and enjoy entertaining friends.
The large mature trees and shrubs were all carefully kept and built in to the design, which leads out from the new contemporary limestone extension to an historic lodge house. An old dining pergola was carefully lifted and replaced keeping mature climbers in place, and a new lawn laid with topiary domes. A central spiral hedge with hidden rose garden creates a place to pause, and the entrance to a secluded meditation garden. Here a spiral labyrinth surrounded by wildflower and woodland planting leads along narrow meandering paths to a yoga studio.
Edible hedges and fruit trees provide foraging whilst the garden edges are covered in scented roses and climbers. A children’s willow dome is tucked behind a tiny dry stream across stepping stones, periodically flooded via an old stone pot basin. A willow tree house in the corner is used by adults and children, although the slide is for children only!
