CHELSEA TOWNHOUSE
A courtyard garden and roof terrace for this beautiful Grade II listed Georgian townhouse in Chelsea. The rooftop space embraces Chelsea’s distinctive roofscape.
In close collaboration with the historic architects Roberts and Treguer and interior designers Steph Hill Designs, we created an outdoor space which harmonises with the interior of this classic and colourful Chelsea townhouse, restored to its Georgian roots.
The courtyard is planted with a mix of herbaceous perennials and shrubs set in gravel. Structure comes from a and topiary sentinels, underplanted with soft greens and whites. Climbers cover the courtyard walls, adding vertical interest and wildlife forage.
Yorkstone sleeper stepping stones break up the gravel surface, guiding visitors through the space and defining the dining area. A reclaimed stone water trough and spout introduce sound and movement to the space, while unique garden ornaments add charm and character.
The roof terrace has a seating space with tall terracotta pots to reflect the timeless chimney-lined Chelsea skyline. For evening gatherings, a stove provides warmth, making this terrace the perfect setting for year-round entertaining.
