CONTEMPORARY HOUSE IN THE SOUTH DOWNS
Part of an important historic estate with a rich history, all that remains to tell the tale of this beautiful location is the walled garden and arboretum. Our client, an architect, is building a fabulous contemporary house in the spirit of the original owner, who was an icon of taste and pioneer collector of art and unusual plants.
The gardens respond to both the house and the South Downs National park: contemporary but naturalistic, they are designed to ground the house into the landscape, create a link to the wider countryside and provide areas of seclusion and delight.
Planting is planned for biodiversity and to attract pollinators, with particular plants to draw in the key target species for this area. The intention is to create both a comfortable family home and an iconic design, reflecting the passions of the creative owners both past and present.
